But which brand is better? Let’s take a look at how to compare the differences between Lifecore and Concept 2 models.
- Resistance Type: Lifecore rowers use magnetic and air resistance, while Concept 2 uses only wind resistance. For this reason, Lifecore may offer a more challenging workout.
- Monitoring: Both brands offer robust, complex monitoring that allows you to keep track of your workouts and view your overall progress. But monitoring is where Concept 2 models really excel. The brand is known for its monitors and their extreme accuracy. And they typically come with built-in USB ports, so you can export your workout data. They’re also compatible with wireless heart rate monitors.
- Weight Capacity: Maximum weight capacity may be a concern for some users, especially if multiple people in the home will be using the rower. Both Lifecore and Concept 2 offer high weight capacities, but Lifecore is slightly more accommodating, with a maximum weight capacity of 600 pounds. The Concept 2 can accommodate up to 500 pounds of weight.
- Size: Another important thing to consider is the rower’s size. Both brands offer models with similar dimensions, but Lifecore’s rowing machines are slightly more compact. Rowers from both brands fold up for easy storage in between your workouts.
To help you find the right model for your lifestyle and needs, we’re going to share four rower reviews from these two leading brands.
Reviews of Our Favorite Lifecore and Concept Models
Concept2 Model E – The Model E Concept2’s most advanced rower, delivering a full-body, low-impact workout. Using the power of air resistance, this rower’s flywheel is designed to minimize noise while allowing for a smooth rowing experience.
Equipped with the Performance Monitor 5, this rower offers accurate and comparable data for each and every row you perform.
The 20” seat height makes it easy to get on and off this rower, while the adjustable footplates allow you to find just the right foot position for your needs. The handles are ergonomically designed to ensure comfort while you row.
With a footprint of 9 feet by 4 feet, this rower can accommodate users up to 500 pounds, and the frame is backed by a 5-year warranty for added peace of mind.
Concept2 Model D – The Model D is arguably the most famous model from Concept2, and it’s generally slightly more affordable than the E.
Like the E, the Model D comes with the advanced Performance Monitor 5, which provides accurate workout data. This backlit monitor comes with a built-in USB port, so you can export your data and track your progress. It’s also compatible with wireless heart rate monitoring equipment.
Noise is always a concern with air rowers, but this model’s flywheel is designed to minimize noise. It’s also constructed with a spiral damper that allows you to adjust the way air flows into the flywheel, changing the feel of the stroke.
The footplates are adjustable, and the handle is ergonomically designed for added comfort. When you’re done with your workout, this model easily separates into two pieces for compact storage.
Lifecore R100 Commercial Rower – The R100 from Lifecore is the most advanced model in the brand’s line-up, and it’s also a commercial machine that’s designed for rigorous use. A high-level unit, the R100 is one of the most luxurious models on our list.
This folding rower offers 16 magnetic resistance levels, but also uses air resistance to make your workouts more challenging.
The R100 offers something Concept2 models don’t – built-in workout programs. There are 15 preset programs and 4 heart rate control workouts. The monitor is compatible with Polar heart rate monitoring products.
The seat and handles are ergonomically designed to support your body’s natural movement, and the 600-pound maximum weight capacity allows this rower to accommodate most users with ease.
LifeCORE Fitness R100 – The Fitness R100 is really designed for at-home users, and it comes loaded with features that users of all fitness levels will appreciate.
Like the previous version of this model, the Fitness R100 has 16 magnetic resistance levels. It also comes with 11 built-in programs, including heart rate control workouts. And if multiple people will be using the machine, you’ll be happy to know that this model can store data for up to 4 users.
One nice thing about this model is that it offers a cooling air vent to keep you cool during your workouts. It also boasts a silent drive system, so your workouts are quiet.
The ergonomically designed seat and handlebars make rowing more natural and comfortable, so you can focus on boosting your strength and endurance.
Buyer’s Guide – Lifecore R100 or Concept 2” Which Is the Right One for You?
We’ve reviewed two of the best rowers from each brand, but which one is the right choice for you? Narrowing down your choices can be difficult. Here are some things to keep in mind:
- If Weight Is an Issue: For heavy users, maximum weight capacity can be an issue. While rowers from both brands can accommodate a lot of weight, Lifecore has the highest weight capacity. If you weigh more than 500 pounds, Lifecore is the way to go.
- If Monitoring Is Important: If your goal is to improve your fitness level and/or lose weight, you want accurate monitoring. Concept2 is known for having extremely precise monitoring for each stroke, so you can accurately gauge your progress and reach your goals.
- If Built-in Workouts Are Important: If you’re the type of person who needs a little extra push or motivation, you may want a rower with built-in workout programs. Lifecore offers this through their advanced monitor. Both preset and heart rate control programs are included, so you can vary your workouts while keeping yourself challenged.
- If Size Is a Concern: If you’re looking for a rower that won’t take up too much space, Lifecore wins in this department. But Concept2 rowers are only slightly larger, so keep this in mind. If you’re short on space but really love Concept2 rowers, you shouldn’t have much of an issue fitting one in your home.
- If Price Is Your Top Priority: If your main concern is your budget, Concept2 may be the better option. The most advanced model is still cheaper than both Lifecore models we reviewed. While price is important, you should consider the features of the rower above all else to ensure you get the model you truly want.
